Bimonthly, we'll take an artist on the rise on the MTV Music Meter and, to help you discover them a little more, detail some of their philanthropic tendencies -- from Mika to Ellie Goulding. This week: The-Dream!

The-Dream made all of his fans' dreams come true today when he dropped his highly anticipated fifth studio album, IV Play. The sexy record features guest appearances from Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and pretty much all of his other awesomely talented and famous friends. Most know him for his own songs like "Falsetto" and "I Luv Your Girl," but he is also one of the best songwriters in the biz who always uses his songwriting for good.

+ He Writes For Women

The-Dream's mother died when he was 15-years-old, an event that inspired him to write songs. "I've always had a soft spot for women because of my mom," he told New York magazine, crediting her with his passion for writing female empowerment anthems like Beyoncé's "Single Ladies."

+ He Writes For Charity

Remember when Kim Kardashian made music?! Back in 2011, she released "Jam (Turn It Up)" -- a charity single for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Dream wrote and produced the song, and even sang backgrounds on it. "This was very, very -- believe it or not -- a very fun moment for me," he told MTV's very own Sway Calloway. "It's one of my lightest musical moments. It wasn't about kicking off a singing career; it was us really having the power of TV and goofing off."

+ He Wrote Justin Bieber's "Baby"

Beliebers betta recognize! The-Dream co-wrote and produced Justin Bieber's first major hit "Baby." Imagine all of the bang flips, and Jelena pics, and dance parties we wouldn't have had if it weren't for him!
