In her new "People Like Us" music video, Kelly Clarkson lives in a black and white world where colorful people are held captive for being different. Kelly plays a scientist observing a Technicolor girl, but when her conscious gets the best of her, she helps the girl escape to a rainbow-filled nation.
"People Like Us" is a song for misfits…which makes it a song for everyone. Whether you're Black or White or orange, rich or poor, gay or straight, "cool" or "uncool," we all feel alone and out of place at times. We've all been hurt; we've all been the butt of a joke; we all pretend to text our friends when we feel awkward at parties. Organizations like Love is Louder and We Stop Hate encourage young people to come together, on the web and in person, to celebrate their own and other people's differences. Show your true colors by writing "Love Is Louder" on your hand and posting it on social media. Or rock a We Stop Hate wristband to join the many people who also believe that love is more powerful than bullying, violence, and hatred.
"People like us we've gotta stick together. Keep your head up, nothing lasts forever. Here's to the damned, to the lost and forgotten. It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom," Clarkson sings as she drives the girl to a beautiful, color-filled land. In times of doubt and loneliness, Kelly's song and video are a loving reminder that there are so many "People Like Us" in the world.
