"World of Jenks" might be off the air, but Andrew Jenks and D-Real Carter are still continuing their crusade to increase the peace in our country.
Jenks and D-Real are partnering with Urban Peace Movement for its annual National Silence The Violence Day on June 1, and we've got all the info on how you can get involved to help put an end to violence in urban areas.
When Oakland's homicide rates peaked in 2006, the founders of Urban Peace Movement put out a call to action. The organization, which works to decrease violence in urban areas, wanted to organize "coordinated, simultaneous vigils" around the country to honor the lives of those lost on the streets. That first event evolved into a national day of action, National Silence The Violence Day, and this year the organization has partnered with United Playaz and 106 KMEL for its biggest day yet.
If you want to help Jenks and D-Real make our cities a little safer, check out these four ways you can take action leading up to National Silence The Violence Day:
+ Pledge Your Allegiance
One way you can get involved in the day of action is to pledge your allegiance to Silence The Violence where you live. By signing the organization's pledge, you are committing to proactively bring peace to your community. To sign the pledge, click here or visit the action widget below. Make sure to pass the pledge around too!
+ Hangout With Jenks & D-Real
That's right! You might want to reschedule your Tuesday night plans, because you're totally invited to hangout with Jenks and D-Real. Make sure you're in front of your computer tonight at 7pm ET/4pm PT, because Jenks and D-Real will be hosting a Google Hangout to promote the upcoming day of action.
+ Selfless Snaps...Starring YOU
You know how much we love our Selfless Snaps, right? Well now you can get involved in the action by posting a photo of yourself to Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr explaining how you're going to answer the call to Silence The Violence on June 1. Make sure you tag your photos with the #stvday hashtag!
+ Stay Silent (For A Moment)
Consider holding a moment of silence to honor the lives lost to violence on June 1. You can do this alone or with a group of friends, and you can hold the "moment" for as long as you want. If you know someone who died due to violence in your community, you can even say his or her name before the moment starts.
