Mean stinks! Between Lady Gaga getting called out for her weight gain and "X-Factor" judge Demi Lovato appearing on Katie Couric's new talk show "Katie," body image and bullying are making headlines left and right. (Sadly, when is it not?) But as Secret deodorant's Mean Stinks campaign Amabassador, Demi is hoping we can gang up for good.
On yesterday's show, Demi told Katie her struggles began early on at the age of 3 revealing, "I remember being in a diaper and rubbing my hand over my stomach...and thinking, 'I wonder if one day this will ever be flat?'"
During the honest and brave interview, Katie then opens up about her past issues with bulimia. "I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that. And I know this rigidity, this feeling that if you eat one thing that's wrong, you're full of self-loathing and then you punish yourself, whether it's one cookie or a stick of gum that isn't sugarless, that I would sometimes beat myself up for that," Katie explained.
Katie isn't the only person Demi has helped open up and spark a conversation about body image, self-worth and self-esteem. Many of her fans -- LOVATICS WHERE YOU AT?! -- thank Demi on the daily through social media. Recently named Mean Stinks' Amabassador, Demi stopped by a New York City high school to talk to young women about bullying.
"I just want them to know that they're strong and that they can get through it," Demi told MTV News. "They're beautiful and no matter what other people say about them, they're worth it and you can get through it; I did myself."
