A lot of people struggle with their image and self-esteem, and "Gossip Girl"'s Leighton Meester has an interesting way to combat image insecurity. Her big juicy secret? "Volunteer," she says.
Answering a question on Twitter, Leighton said:
Volunteer. It'll help u realize how much u have- volunteermatch.org RT "@flawlessddl: any advice for girls struggling with their image?"

You heard her, folks. Nothing about changing how you look, just something about changing how you act. Because being kind is beautiful, ya know? Knowing you're helping someone can be a big boost for your self-esteem (though Lady Gaga's new body acceptance movement Body Revolution might help, too).
In her Tweet, Leighton shared a super useful site: Volunteer Match. When you go there, you type in the sort of thing that interests you (say, "anti-bullying" or "women's empowerment" or "environment") and where you live. You can put the state you live in, or you can narrow it down more and put in your zip code. Then the magic of the site gives you examples of volunteer work that's in your area and has to do with the stuff you feel passionate about. For instance, Leighton, who's against fracking, might want to use the site to search for ways to protest fracking and help the environment.
The final season of "Gossip Girl" is going to be premiering October 8, and on October 5 her new movie "The Oranges" is being released, so this next month is going to be a big one for Leighton. But you know what's always big? Yup, helping others. And that ain't gossip... that's just the truth.
