Let's give a big birthday shoutout to Lil Wayne, who's turning the big 3-0 today. While we don't know Weezy's whole schedule today (cake and presents and more presents?) we do know for sure that he's opening a skate park in New Orleans.
Skate parks are always rad, but there are a few reasons this particular skate park is on anotha level. First off, there's a lot of sentimental value, 'cause Wayne is originally from New Orleans. "I just want to help out my city, help out the people, the kids and give them something to do. Something they haven't done before...It's always good to learn something new," he said about opening the skate park.
Trukstop skate park is in the Lower 9th Ward of NOLA, which was an area hit especially hard by Hurricane Katrina. Trukstop is in a building that managed to make it through the hurricane, but many other buildings in the area were destroyed after the disaster. The park is reported to be the first eco-skate park in America. The ramps are made from recycled concrete, the paint used for the logos and murals is VOC-free and plants grow between two of the ramps!
Lil Wayne is making other headlines in the news too. He recently broke Elvis' Billboard record, which is, you know, unheard of. We're talking Elvis. THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL. According to MTV News, Mr. Carter "set the new high point for the most Hot 100 entries at 109, passing the 108 posted by the late rock king between 1958 and 2003." A lot of these 109 songs are due to the fact that Weezy F Baby has collaborated with, like a ton of people. From Andre 3000 to Wiz Khalifa, he has seriously been on everyone (and their mother's) songs.
This plus his birthday would seem to be plenty of reason for high celebrations, so happy, happy born day Weezy! We're gonna rock some leopard print jeggings in your honor! 'Cause we both know that it's better than wearing real fur.
