Justin Timberlake is heading back to the world of romantic comedies.

After a more dramatic turn in "The Trouble with the Curve," Variety is reporting that Timberlake is in talks to star in some lighter fare. He would play a "charming" alcoholic restaurant critic for New York Magazine who decides to put down the cup and do whatever he can to win over the woman of his dreams.

"Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" helmer Peter Sollett is set to direct the flick. Brandon and Phil Murphy penned the script, and it was recognized on the 2011 Black List. It sounds like this project has the makings of greatness to us.

Alcoholism is a touchy subject, and it sounds like there's plenty of room for dramatic depth in this project. We like our romcoms tempered with a little reality, and Timberlake has proven time and again that he can walk the fine line between comedy and drama without making it feel contrived.

This is Timberlake's first romantic comedy since last year's "Friends with Benefits." Clearly that film was a good enough experience that Timberlake felt the need to delve back into the genre, though the fresh story likely helped to convince him that romcoms were the way to go. In addition to "Trouble with the Curve," Timberlake is also starring in the Coen brothers movie "Inside Llewyn Davis" and the crime thriller "Runner, Runner." He might not be able to pump out an album every year, but Timberlake sure knows how to pick his movies.
