The presidential debates are coming up in October, and three teenage girls -- Emma Axelrod, Elena Tsemberis and Sammi Siegel -- started a petition asking that at least one of the moderators be a woman. That's because it's been a whole twenty years since the last time a woman moderated a presidential debate.

That's a depressing figure, but the good news is that the girls got their wish for this year's debates! The moderators have been announced: Candy Crowley, Jim Lehrer and Bob Schieffer. Crowley is a news anchor for CNN, and she'll be moderating the second presidential debate, which will take place on October 16 in New York.

Was the choice for Crowley a direct result of the girls' petition? More than 120,000 people did sign. A lot of people have been pressing for a woman to moderate, including Carole Simpson, who moderated a presidential debate in 1992. There will be one vice presidential debate, and the moderator chosen for it -- Martha Raddatz -- is also a woman. A lot of people spoke up, and results can be seen.

So that leads us to the question: what would you like to see changed in politics next? A bunch of people are excited about the fact two out of the four people picked as moderators are women, but they might still point out that this year's moderator selections don't give different ethnicities a chance.
