The reign of "The Dark Knight Rises" as the box office champion has come to an end. After three weeks of untouchable supremacy, it was "The Bourne Legacy" that put a stop to the winning streak.
The spy reboot took in just over $40 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com, near where the "Bourne" series performed during opening weekends for the first two films. The "Legacy" total fell far below the last entry's bow, however. "The Bourne Ultimatum" opened to $69 million back in 2007, when Matt Damon was still the series lead.
The political satire, "The Campain," starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis took in a respectable $27.4 million.
Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie brought its domestic total to $390 million after earning $19.5 million this weekend. That brought its total just past "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2" in the all-time chart.
