There is a lot going on in the first trailer for "Alex Cross." First, we have to get used to Tyler Perry playing a role that has only been played by Morgan Freeman.
Then there is Matthew Fox.
The "Lost" star has gone above an beyond to play a pain-obsessed psychopath with an arsenal big enough to wipe out a few city blocks. When MTV News spoke with Perry from his upcoming movie "Madea's Witness Protection," he talked about playing the famous character and working with an extremely dedicated Fox.

Perry said that the history of the Alex Cross role didn't phase him because of a recent dramatic role. "I wasn't afraid of it because I had done 'Good Deeds,'" he said. "Once I had done 'Good Deeds,' I realized I could play that character, but had I not played Wesley Deeds, I don't think I would have even attempted to or even say 'Yes' to James Patterson when they called. What is important is that I deliver, because Morgan Freeman played that role, and you don't want to go in there messing that up. You want to go in right. I've seen the movie, and I'm very excited about it."
As for Fox, it sounds like we haven't even begun to see the lengths he has gone to for his character, which is extremely good news. "He is brilliant," Perry said. "The amount of dedication and the weight loss is this much of where he went. He really went to where ever he had to go. I don't even want to know what dark places he went to to get that character, but he was amazing."
