With the release of "Prometheus" only a week and a half away, Fox has unveiled a new featurette for the movie that focuses on the ship itself. And while the style and shape of the vehicle are all very interesting, we find writer Damon Lindelof's reasoning for why the movie is named after the ship to be very telling.

"'Prometheus' [the myth] talked about all the things that we wanted the movie to be about. Creation, defiance of the gods, the hubris of it all," he said.

For those of you who aren't as up on your Greek mythology, Prometheus was a titan who acted as a champion for mankind. He stole the gift of fire from the gods and gave it to humans, which caused mortals to have a major advancement in their knowledge and technology. But Prometheus was punished for his defiance by being bound to a rock and having an eagle come and eat his liver, only to have it grow back and the cycle be repeated every day. Needless to say, that myth -- and this movie -- is not for the faint of heart.

Also intriguing in this featurette is an image we see towards the beginning of the video. We see a strange shot of a deformed man staring at his hand, but it's unclear who or what he is. Is this one of the creatures that allegedly caused the beginning of mankind? Or is this some sort of transformation that one of the crew of the Prometheus undergoes? These are big questions with answers that we likely won't get until the movie comes out next Friday.

"Prometheus" is due out in theaters on June 8. It stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron.
