It's been a few up-and-down years for Demi Lovato, and while she's not out of the woods yet, she's working hard to put her troubles behind her. The future does indeed look bright for this newly crowned "X Factor" judge, and Demi's been bravely talking about her struggles to help anyone facing similar problems.
She checked into rehab in 2010 and admitted to an eating disorder, battling with bulimia as well as self-harm. In rehab she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Speaking to Cosmopolitan in their July issue, Demi said that recovery is "a daily thing; you don't get time off from it."
She's also honest about the fact that recovery takes time and people don't typically come out "all better." It's not a perf journey back to good health.
"And if I feel like myself slipping back into old patterns, I have to ask others for help, which is hard for me to learn, because I really like doing everything on my own," she also said in the magazine.
Asking for help is often the first step, though. Demi's also trying to help others, because she knows how it feels when you're down under. She shows us that "Love is louder than the pressure to be perfect" because sometimes trying too hard to be "perfect" only messes things up. She also went back to her treatment center to talk to residents as well as perform for them. And don't forget her emotional documentary "Stay Strong" which aired on MTV in March. We're judging that Demi's future is going to get better and better!
