The latest in what has been a series of A-listing castings, Penelope Cruz is reportedly in talks to join the cast of Ridley Scott's "The Counselor" as the romantic lead, Laura, opposite Michael Fassbender.
Cruz's husband, Javier Bardem, and Brad Pitt became the second and third actors to join after the initial casting of Fassbender as the lead. This would be the first time the husband and wife have worked together since Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona."
With the news of Bardem and Pitt joining the cast came news of Angelina Jolie's interest in the role of Malkina, the mysterious woman who plays a vital role in the story. There is still no word on whether Jolie will be able to join "The Counselor." She is currently scheduled to begin filming "Maleficent" in June, around the time "The Counselor" is set to start production.
Cruz has no officially signed on to the film, but the Hollywood Reporter refers to her as the frontrunner.
"The Counselor" is based on an original screenplay from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy.
