Good news, Potterheads! J.K. Rowling is working on a Harry Potter encyclopedia, and has pledged to donate the royalties to her favorite charity organizations. "For a long time, I have been promising an encyclopedia of Harry's world, and I have started work on this now," said Rowling in the FAQ section of her website. The encyclopedia will hopefully answer readers' unanswered questions about Harry, Hogwarts, and whether or not there are any magic schools outside of Europe. (Don't break my heart, J.K.! I'm still waiting on my invitation to Hogwarts' American grad school…)
Potter fans have been hungry for a new book since 2007's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," and this news surely has a few of them hyperventilating. Immediately after telling my little sister about the encyclopedia, I had to yell out, "Anapneo!" (Which is the spell for catching one's breath…not to be confused with "Avada Kedavra," which causes instant death.)
Over the years, J.K. Rowling has become a notable philanthropist. She is the president of Gingerbread, an organization that provides advice and support to single parent families. Formerly a single parent herself, Rowling also collaborated with author Sarah Brown on a book of stories for children growing up with only one parent. She has donated a lot of money to the research and treatment of multiple sclerosis, and is also a supporter of The Shannon Trust, which gives tutoring to British prisoners who cannot read.
Although Rowling has no current plans of penning a new Harry Potter book, this encyclopedia should hold Potterheads over for…a few days.
