Is that it for "The Hunger Games" and Gary Ross? That's a possibility we're looking at based on a new report that the filmmaker and Lionsgate are in "tough negotiations" regarding how much he'll earn for the planned sequel, "Catching Fire."
On paper, the idea of another director getting to put his or her stamp on the world of Panem isn't so bad; it'd be kind of nice to have a new voice in the mix. But Ross did such a fantastic job that without him as director, we would be looking at a very, very different movie—perhaps a movie that I, at least, won't want to watch.
For his part, Ross has always been passionate about continuing with the "Hunger Games" series. Not long ago, the director told MTV News that he already has "ideas about how to do 'Catching Fire' slightly differently, but I don't want to share them yet. Not because I'm being evasive, but just because they're not fully baked. But yes, I think it will look and feel slightly different from the first."
Here's hoping it all works out. Head on over to Hollywood Crush for more on the news.
