Where should you go to college if you want to party until the break of dawn and walk to class still drinking? New Orleans of course! Dan made his way from Bourbon St. to the pristine grounds of Tulane University on tonight's "Savage U," but found that some students have a false sense of security when it comes to hooking up on campus.
+The Deets
John is a single guy who has slept with about 10 girls. He doesn't always use protection and hasn't been tested for STDs, but thinks he's probably in the clear because girls who go to Tulane don't have STDs, right?? "What are the odds of getting an STD at Tulane?" John asks Dan.
+The (SEX)perts Weigh In
Nice try John, but the chances of getting an STD at Tulane are "pretty high," according to Dan, just like the chances are pretty high for anyone having sex.
One in two sexually active young people will get an STD by the time they are 25, and where you go to school has nothing to do with it.
"You can't look at someone and go oh 'Rich dad, grew up in Connecticut' we're good to go,'" Dan said. "There is a good chance…you've already slept with somebody who has a sexually transmitted infection."
John says he plans to get tested after listening to Dan and we are behind him 100%. Getting yourself tested, GYT, is the only way to find out if you have an STD. You can't tell just by looking at someone if they have an STD and you can't tell just by looking for physical symptoms if YOU have an STD.
+What You Can Do
The only way to protect yourself from getting an STD 100% of the time is to not have sex. A lot of people wait to have sex, and not having to worry about STDs is a major benefit.
If You are Having Sex:
-Use condoms! When used consistently and correctly each and every time you have sex, condoms are the only method that can help reduce your risk of getting infected.
-Get yourself talking about STDs and testing with your bf/gf. It isn't always easy to start a conversation about STDs and testing, but these tips can help you get started.
-Get yourself tested! Getting tested is the only way to know for sure if you have an STD. Know yourself, know your status.
