The Trevor Project, an org that offers 24/7 support to LGBT youth, is going to be having a big night June 25. That's when the annual event Trevor Live will be taking place in New York. Tickets are expensive (an individual needs to have at least $500 to get in), but the money goes to a super good cause. And if you can't attend, def. Tweet about it with the hashtag #TrevorLive!
Michael Mayer, the Tony Award-winning director of "Smash," is going to be taking his directing talents over to Trevor Live this year as the special guest director. Michael has also worked on Broadway with epic the musicals "Spring Awakening" (where Lea Michele got her start) and the Green Day inspired "American Idiot."
"We admire Michael not only for his talent and creative vision, but for his role in the LGBTQ community," said Trevor Project CEO and Executive Director Abbe Land. "He is a true role model for today's youth and we are thrilled to be working with him."
Sounds like the feelings of love are mutual; Michael said about The Trevor Project, "Everyone deserves to be accepted for who they are, especially today's youth. I believe strongly in The Trevor Project's mission and I am honored to be a part of this year's event."
Speaking of honoring, MTV is going to be honored with the Trevor 2020 Award. The award honors visionaries expected to keep paving the way for social change. Insert blushing Emoji here. Our president, Stephen Friedman, will be there to collect the award. People who have been honored at Trevor Live in the past include some of our own favorite people, like Lady Gaga, Daniel Radcliffe and soon-to-be "Punk'd" Neil Patrick Harris.
