Katy Perry has shattered records, got her own concert film and now the pop songstress is about to be the latest star immortalized in comic book form.
The "Part of Me" singer will get the (unauthorized) treatment from Bluewater Comic Books in "Fame: Katy Perry." The graphic novel will tackle Perry's upbringing as the daughter of two Christian pastors in addition to her struggles landing a record deal in Los Angeles.
Perry is by no means the first to get the comic book treatment courtesy of Bluewater. The company has animated many a celeb in their "Fame" series, including Betty White, Lady Gaga and Angelina Jolie. Although, not all artists were thrilled with the interpretations: the company received cease-and-desist letters concerning their Gaga and Justin Bieber issues.
The company quickly responded at the time, telling MTV News, "We are 100% within our First Amendment rights. We knew our rights on this before we jumped into the biography world. These are 100% biographies on their lives."
Here's a quick look at some other interesting comic books from Bluewater's "Fame" series.
Lady Gaga
The company's description for Gaga's issue is rather apt: "Is it the costumes? The music? The voice? Maybe it's all that stage blood. Bluewater Comics examines the impact Lady GaGa has on her growing legion of fans. Is there room for everyone in the Haus of GaGa?"
Always one to throw her (no doubt elaborate) hat into every creative endeavor possible, Gaga herself drew up a mini-comic, "Lady Saga," that was exclusively available in Marc Jacob stores.
Beyonce
New momma Beyonce got her own comic back in January '11, which promised to "trace Beyonce's rise through the music business, from her early days with Destiny's Child to her booming solo career." The 32-page comic even had an appearance from Gaga (for their "Telephone" collab) and Mike Meyers since Bey was featured in his third Austin Powers film, "Goldmember."
"Glee"
Yes, even the hit show "Glee" got a novel of its own. The issue analyzed the lives of the actors and creative talent that made the show a huge hit. It outlines how mainstays Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer all came to be on the show. It also highlights the career of "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy and his steady rise to becoming a Hollywood powerhouse.
