Miley Cyrus has been known to shock in the past – but this week's announcement of the 19-year-old star's engagement to 22-year-old boyfriend Liam Hemsworth trumps all. Since this news was released, media outlets have been overwhelmed with a range of opinions from family, friends and fellow artists.
The latest to join the conversation is fellow country music star Carrie Underwood, who spoke out at the CMT Music Awards with some words of wisdom for young Miley. "If you can, be engaged for a while, plan everything slow and take your first couple of years just to really hang out," she told Extra on the red carpet.
Underwood has been happily married for two years now to Nashville Predators hokey star Mike Fisher. With a happy relationship and engagement in the spotlight behind her, Miley might want to consider taking Carrie's advice.
Miley's parents wasted no time in expressing their support for her decision and future plans. Billy Ray Cyrus took to Twitter to make a very public proclamation of his sentiments. "All I ever hoped for as a Daddy was to see my kids reach their dreams," Billy Ray wrote. "To find happiness...peace of mind ...and someday know... true love." Next up was mom Tish Cyrus, who tweeted, "Wow! All of the love pouring out for Miley and Liam is incredible! So happy for my precious baby girl and the love of her life!"
Response to this news has not been purely positive though, with some chatter that both stars may be too young to jump into marriage. But we imagine Liam's fans are actually the most disapproving of the bunch and we don't blame them – losing Liam will be a hard day.
