"Twilight" star Kellan Lutz' on-screen vampire alter-ego may be capable of ripping his sworn enemies to shreds, but in real life, the actor is fighting for the rights of crabs and lobsters that are being inhumanely killed at Linda Bean's Maine Lobster in Rockland, Maine.

Kellan is not okay with the way Linda Bean's kills and cooks its crustaceans, so he wrote the business a personal letter.

Lutz realized he had a soft-spot for these hard-shelled mealtime faves after watching PETA's undercover video footage showing workers at Linda Bean's ripping apart fully conscious lobsters and crabs, then either boiling them alive or throwing them into trash bins to die slowly.

In his letter, Kellan asks the Linda Bean — company owner and heiress to the L.L. Bean clothing line fortune — to use alternative slaughter methods, such as electrical stunning, which would kill the crustaceans quickly before they're torn to bits.

"Watching these animals writhe as their exposed internal organs were violently scrubbed off with spinning brushes made me wonder how you could possibly wait one second longer to spend a little of your profits on a machine that renders these animals unconscious prior to being processed," wrote Kellan. "Even if you can't relate to lobsters and crabs in the same way that you might to dogs or dolphins, they also deserve to be spared unnecessary agony."
