Lily Allen's new "Hard Out Here" song and video is pretty damn awesome. The singer takes down sexist double standards in life and in the entertainment world, and she does it all without missing a beat.
+ Watch Lily Allen's "Hard Out Here."
The vid opens with Lily getting liposuction with her manager in the room. While the doctors make snide remarks about how she let her self go, Lily is quick to remind them that she's had two kids --- no small feat, indeed.
Then Lily takes over the video. She spoofs music videos like "Blurred Lines" for all they're worth, having herself be the center of attention instead of the male singer and having the dancers' booty shaking look especially absurd to . . . well, show how absurd it is. And is that Rebel Wilson we see, crawling about the car?
Lily sings: "I suppose I should tell what this bitch it thinking/You'll find me in the studio and not in the kitchen/I won't be bragging 'bout my cars or talking 'bout my chains/No need to shake my ass for you cause I've got a brain." The song continues with lyrics like, "If I told you about my sex life, you'd call me a slut/When boys be talking about their bitches no one's making a fuss" and "If you're not a size 6, then you're not good looking/Well you better be rich or be real good at cooking/You should probably lose some weight 'cause we can't see your bones/You should probably fix your face or you'll end up on your own." Who said scathing satire in a music video can't start a revolution?
