Peter Jackson finally surfaced from the never-ending pick-up shoots of "The Desolation of Smaug" and "There and Back Again" to release a new video blog and disappoint San Diego Comic-Con bound nerds everywhere.
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" will not make an appearance at SDCC later this month in any way, shape, or form, according to Jackson.
"The problem is that I'm so busy shooting, working six days a week trying to get these pickups done that every hour that I spend focusing on a really great reel for Comic-Con—and it would have to be great—would be hours spent away from the vital job of making the second and third 'Hobbit' films as cool as they can possibly be."
But there was still some fun to be had with the blog and things to learn, which we discuss after the jump!
We got some new footage from a wintry Dale, where Gandalf and Thandruil totally kick ass. Like a lot of ass.
Then we got a quick look at Mirkwood Forest, the sight of one of the biggest events from the middle portion of the book that will play out in "Desolation of Smaug." Get ready for Rainbow Forest!
We're still trying to figure this one out.
Jackson said that the Dwarvicise had to do with filming the Battle of Five Armies, something we are eagerly awaiting to see in "The Hobbit: There and Back Again."
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" opens on December 13, 2013.
