I'll admit it: I'm a little protective over Kate Middleton. Maybe it's because the United States doesn't have a princess (note: I'm still pro-democracy, don't worry). Maybe it's because my generation grew up on Disney princess stories, and I'm a little brainwashed on Happily Ever After. Regardless of the reason, I've got the Duchess of Cambridge's back.
So when I read about a speech English author Hilary Mantel made, saying Kate "appeared to have been designed by a committee and built by craftsmen, with a perfect plastic smile" and "a jointed doll on which certain rags are hung," I went H*A*M.
Whether her speech was meant to be a commentary on royals and how they are perceived by the media or if it was just a harsh criticism of my gurl, I took offense. First, it rarely sits well with me when a woman bashes another woman. Second, Kate Middleton is more than just a pretty face with awesome clothes and Pantene commericial-like hair.
That said, here are four reasons why Kate Middleton is an awesome person, royal or not:
+ Grants a Cancer Patient's Wish

Remember when Will and Kate visited the US and Canada? Well Kate used that time to talk with Diamond, a cancer patient, who wanted to meet a real Princess. Although Kate doesn't have the title yet, we love that she took the time to meet the girl IRL to grant her wish.
+ Loves England's Children (Not Just Her Own Kid!)

Even before it was announced she was expecting her first child, the Duchess was doing her part to make a difference in the lives of England's children. She donated "a hamper of new baby products" to one of her favorite charities, East Anglia's Children's Hospices. The hamper is currently up for auction to benefit the organization.
+ Supports Her Fellow Women

Ever since the palace announced William and Kate's pregnancy, the entire world, it seems, has been on baby bump watch. Well, the royal baby bump made its official debut this week, while Kate was visiting at Hope House, a treatment center for women. Kate is a Patron of Action on Addiction, which is the organization that supports Hope House. While there, Kate sat in on an art therapy class and talked about her pregnancy with the women.
+ Knows Education Is So Legit

Sure she might be in the middle of her first pregnancy, but Kate Middleton is still making time to travel to support education. On March 5, the Duchess will travel "to the National Fishing Heritage Center on the northeast coast of England." While there, she will "meet with the town's first responders and open a new school."
There you have it, you guys! Are you with me on the whole, what's-not-to-love about Kate wagon?!
