Things certainly do look like they've gone "Lawless" in the first trailer for the upcoming movie.
Formerly known as "The Wettest County in the World," the flick follows Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy and Jason Clarke as three brothers who start a business bootlegging alcohol during Prohibition in the 1920s. As you can see from the trailer (included after the jump), that only works out for so long for the Bondurant brothers.
The cast is what's really got us excited for this film. Beyond the three brothers at the center of the story, "Lawless" stars Gary Oldman as a gangster who gets the Bondurants started as alcohol deliverymen, Guy Pearce as "an overly violent deputy who comes down hard on the Bondurants," Mia Wasikowska as the girlfriend of LaBeouf's character and Jessica Chastain as a big city woman who was once mixed up with gangsters and ends up becoming Hardy's love interest.
As if that wasn't enough to get you excited, the flick has a great pedigree as well. "Lawless" reunites "The Road" director John Hillcoat with his "The Proposition" screenwriter Nick Cave. Pearce starred in that film as well, and he had nothing but good things to say about his "Lawless" cast members when Movieline recently interviewed him.
"It's an amazing cast," he said. "I mean, Jessica Chastain and Tom Hardy together? She's ridiculous, and Tom Hardy's extraordinary. Really, really extraordinary. And Shia was fantastic -– and Mia Wasikowska! I'm not just saying this, people always say this about the people they work with, but those four together are really, really special."
"Lawless" will make its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, and is slated to hit theaters on August 31.
