"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" comes out in little over a week, and it will allow fans to return to Middle-Earth almost a decade after "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" hit theaters. The new Peter Jackson film is the first in a trilogy that will expand upon the story of "The Hobbit" with material from J.R.R. Tolkien's Appendices, so there is plenty for fans to look forward to in the new movies.
In anticipation of the December 14 release, Warner Bros. has released a 13-minute-long featurette that takes viewers through the return to Middle-Earth in the new film. From the introduction of the dwarves to Bilbo's run-in with the trolls, the video gives a behind-the-scenes look at "An Unexpected Journey."
"Fans of 'The Hobbit,' they're going to get so much more," Elijah Wood teased in the featurette.
Jackson defended the decision to expand "The Hobbit" into three films in the above video. Fans will get to see what Gandalf is up to during the parts of "The Hobbit" novel that he's not present, and they'll also be introduced to the White Council. Let's just say that this story will be more than just the tale of Bilbo Baggins and his 13 dwarf companions.
"When we made 'Lord of the Rings,' I was absolutely sure that was going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Jackson said. "I never realized that, 10 years later, we'd do it all over again."
