Things we know about Lil Wayne. He loves: jeggings, singing "Young moola baby," watching professional sports and getting on a skateboard. Oh and about that skateboarding, he's all about giving back when he gets on a board! Y'all think that Angelina Jolie and Oprah are helping kids but so is Weezy! And he's doing it in a pretty awesome way.
Wayne recently worked with Stoked, a super fun youth mentoring program and enlisted the help of 10 teens to help him create a commercial. SERIOUSLY. They created a TV commercial for Wayne's Mountain Dew campaign, DEWeezy. The teens received input online from Lil Wayne fans as well as from renown music video director Chris Robinson (NBD, the dude has directed music videos for Wayne as well as Drake, Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys, Usher and a bajillion other artists). You can check out the final commercial below!
Legit commercial, right? MTV's Sway Calloway recently caught up with Weezy at a Miami-area skate park, to premiere his music video for "No Worries." During the interview, he briefly talked about Stoked and how kids created the commercial for him.
During the interview Wayne also talked about his big love for skating. He has skate parks in Miami, New Orleans and Atlanta. The Trukstop skate park in New Orleans opened on his 30th bday. He's hoping to encourage kids to stay off the streets and skate. These days Weezy definitely seems like he's growing up. He even avoids after-parties while touring. "Bad things happen in there," he admitted to Sway. Instead he spends his nights at skate parks."Skating is a world. It's a life... and I didn't know that. I thought it was four wheels and a piece of wood. But now I know it's a world and I just want to be vital in that world," he explained in the video below.
What do you think of Weezy's love of skateboarding and how he gives back through it? What other rappers would like to see give back through sports?
