Login to Facebook. Check. Upload flattering pictures of yourself. Check. Look at your crush's updates and share your own. Check. Register to vote. Check. Wait . . . wha?
No, it's actually true. Washington state is getting ready to let people register to vote through Facebook. Before the month is up, registering to vote on Facebook should be as easy for Washington residents as going on to Gchat.
So how does it work, and how do they make sure there isn't voter fraud? Well, you head on over to the official Facebook page of the secretary of state and that's where you sign up. Besides giving info like your name and birth date, you have to give a driver's license number or state identification number to verify yourself.
Some people are worried about Facebook collecting info on them, but that def. won't be the case here. Once you begin filling out your stats, "you're no longer entering data on Facebook," said Shane Hamlin, Washington's co-director of elections.
Earlier this month Rock the Vote also debuted a tool to help people register to vote online. Right now Washington has 6.8 million residents, but only about 3.7 million are registered to vote. Rock the Vote -- and Washington state -- want to make sure that number goes up in time for the 2012 election.
So I've got a question for ya: if you're at least 18 years old and not yet registered to vote, do you think you'd be interested in registering online, either through Facebook or another site? What do you think of this new way to get more people voting?
