It's Selena Gomez Week at MTV Act! Well, maybe not officially, but we can't help covering this big-hearted singer all week -- not only is she out and about doing good deeds like helping the Ryan Seacrest Foundation and visiting children's hospitals, but she's also turning 20 this Sunday. To celebrate the start of a new decade for Selenita, and to highlight some of the awesome philanthropic stuff she's done so far, we wanted to put together a list of her best do-gooder moments!
+ Preventing Childhood Deaths
Each day 21,000 children around the world die from preventable reasons, and Selena, an ambassador for the kid-helping org UNICEF, is determined to bring that number down. This staggering number is enough to catch anyone's attention, and Selena Tweeted about it and gave us a link to UNICEF where we can help bring this number down. We want to see a lot more people reaching their 20th birthday, just like how Selena's about to.
+Helping People In Sahel
Time to get out your maps: Sahel is a region in Africa. And time to get out the ways you can help: Sahel has been suffering from a hunger crisis. Droughts have been bad, and that means not enough food. Again acting as an ambassador for UNICEF, Selena starred in a 46-second PSA that's still totally worth your time to watch.
+World Water Week
We normally don't think much about drinking water, but for many people out there, getting clean water is a big deal. Not everyone has access to it. That's why Selena got involved with the Tap Project during World Water Week. During the week participating restaurants donated water to children who lack clean water when customers bought their water (instead of getting it for free like usual).
+Concert For UNICEF
So by now you've probably realized Selena is big into helping out UNICEF. And, yup, that includes concerts! Last January she performed a benefit show to help out the org. "Giving back has always been important to me," she said. "This concert allows me to connect with my fans in person which is one of the best parts of my job and to raise money for important causes at the same time I can't think of anything I would enjoy doing more."
+Love To Fans
Selena's fans love Selena, and Selena loves her fans! In one big-hearted example, Selena not only stopped to visit her fan Julia, who needed a heart transplant, but the two of them jammed out and made music together. You can still see the vid! Thankfully, Julia ended up getting the heart transplant she needed, and Selena Tweeted to everyone about how thrilled she was.
