It was a year ago today when the world lost 27 year old singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse. Her memory is very much alive for her dad, Mitch, her fans, and all the people being helped by the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
The Amy Winehouse Foundation debuted on September 14 last year, which was Amy's 28th birthday and has these important goals: "to support charitable activities in both the UK and abroad that provide help, support or care for young people, especially those who are in need by reason of ill health, disability, financial disadvantage or addiction."
Amy dad's recently wrote a book, "Amy, My Daughter" and if you buy it, you can know that all author proceeds go directly to the foundation. And if you guys shop on eBay, there's good news there, too: eBay's charity of the week is the Amy Winehouse Foundation! That will go on until this Sunday. You can give sweet donations at the check out, or you can even bid on Foundation items.
To talk about his daughter's passing, Mitch Winehouse wrote a moving piece for the Huffington Post in which he talks about her short life and music. Like any proud papa, he thinks his daughter had incredible talents, and he talks a little about Amy's lifelong love of music and some of the inspiration for her songwriting.
"Sometimes listening to Amy's music helps me; sometimes it makes me feel more sad," he reveals. "I miss Amy more than I can say."
Today you can have Amy and her dad in your thoughts, and help both of them through the foundation.
