Tyra Banks knows firsthand the kind of pressure out there for models -- and girls in general -- to be stick thin. And she's saying, "Enough!"
One of the prime suspects for showing unrealistically slim girls would be fashion magazines. Obvi. But now editors of Vogue's 19 international editions have stepped forth and said that they won't hire models who "appear to have an eating disorder" (Vogue's own words). Tyra wrote an open letter about this decision on The Daily Beast and then spoke about how happy she was with Vogue on "Good Morning America." In case you missed her on GMA, she tweeted a link so you can watch what she said about this:
I spoke out on @GMA today to CELEBRATE @voguemagazine's new Health Initiative for models. Fam, we need 2toast over BBQ! abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/tyra…

Tyra talks about how she was considered "fat" when she was modeling as a size "four with curves." As if! She also talks about how the fashion industry looks the other way when it comes to the health of its models, caring only if the girls can walk around and not faint. A lot of people have complained about this, saying it's not a good look for models or the health and self-esteem of people who admire these models. But if the same look keeps being expected, what can you do? That's why Tyra's so psyched about this change, and she's hoping it will lead to bigger and better things. The whole idea that you have to be a size zero to be considered pretty has got to go -- and Tyra's leading the way!
