For some people, applying to a job is a little more complicated than printing out your resume, hopping in your car and heading on your way. For Jhaqueil Reagan, 18, that meant walking almost ten miles in ice and snow for a job that paid minimum wage!
When Reagan asked Art Bouvier, owner of Papa Roux in Indianapolis, for directions, Bouvier was surprised. He told the teenager he was about six or seven miles from his destination and that he should take the bus. The teen thanked him and continued walking.
When Bouvier got in his car to run errands a few minutes later, Reagan was still walking along the road. Bouvier offered him a ride, which the teenager accepted. While in the car, Reagan explained his situation.
Reagan dropped out of high school and obtained his GED when his mom died two years ago. Because he had to take care of his younger siblings, Reagan couldn't afford bus fare. In fact, Reagan was walking in the ice and snow and slush because he was on his way to apply for a minimum wage job, which, in Indianapolis, would pay him $7.25 an hour.
Bouvier was stunned to find that Reagan had planned to cover ten miles on foot for such a job, and he posted about it on his restaurant's Facebook page. In a twist that should warm even the coldest hearts in Indy, Bouvier then offered Reagan a job at HIS restaurant, promising to pay him above minimum wage!

Since the Facebook post has gone viral -- almost 25,000 people have liked it -- other people have stepped in to offer to help the teen. Reagan was even presented with a free, one-year bus pass from IndyGo. Reagan has already started his job at Papa Roux's.
While not everyone has to walk ten miles in the snow to find a job, this economy isn't making it easy on anyone to secure employment.
