On February 26th, 2012, the name "Trayvon Martin" began dominating headlines all over the country after the unarmed 17-year-old was shot in the chest by a community watchdog while walking home from a convenience store. A year later, community members seeking justice were joined by Jamie Foxx at a rally in New York City.

Last night, hundreds gathered in NYC's Union Square for a candlelight vigil in honor of the young boy, and to urge that we continue a very crucial conversation on race and gun violence in America.

The multi-talented Jamie Foxx joined Trayvon's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, at the rally rockin' their hoodies to support and honor Trayvon's memory. The night of his death, Trayvon was wearing a hoodie to cover in the rain -- the hoodie has taken up a whole new meaning that has carried the movement forward. Jamie sang "No Weapon Shall Prosper" to Trayvon's parents as the crowd surrounded. The crowd then collectively chanted, "Who are we? Trayvon Martin!" At 7:17pm (the time of his death), the crowd had a moment of silence.

Gun violence in America is a critical issue that seems to becoming more and more prevalent. It was a main focus during President Obama's State of the Union speech earlier this year. If you'd like to chime in on the issue and let your representatives know how you feel, take action below.
