The 2012 Nick HALO Awards aired last night on Nickelodeon, and celebs like Justin Bieber, Ne-Yo, Emma Stone, and Tyra Banks came out to honor five real, extraordinary teens who are Helping And Leading Others (HALO). The honorees won surprise visits from Nick Cannon and other celebs, as well as scholarships and grants for their causes. In case you missed it, here are 5 big things you missed:
+ Nick & Mariah
And the award for cutest couple goes to... Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey. The two have never looked more in love -- shining on the orange carpet and throughout the ceremony. The HALO Awards are actually Nick's creation, and yesterday it was obvious that Nick's kindheartedness starts at home with his family.
+ Taylor Waters Gets Gifted
Taylor first got involved with disaster relief when her grandmother's house burned down in 2010. After seeing how much the Red Cross helped her granny, Taylor decided to volunteer for the organization -- now she's establishing her own Red Cross Club at East Carolina University. Many of the celebs in attendance surprised Taylor with autographed shirts that she can auction off to raise funds for her club! Taylor's celeb partner Josh Duhamel is also passionate about disaster relief (So he's hot AND caring? Swooooon!), and made a surprise appearance at her local volunteer center!
+ Kylie Lan Tumiatti Gets a Home Visit from Justin Bieber
Kylie Lan Tumiatti is the lucky girl who got paired with Justin Bieber at this year's HALO Awards. And if that weren't cool enough, he even paid her a surprise home visit before the show! Kylie runs literacy programs for the children of migrant workers. As a child, she was abandoned on the steps of an elderly home in China, and it was her loving adopting parents that taught her the importance of literacy and of giving back to her community.
+ Raymone George's Surprise Award
Just look at that face! 18-year-old Raymone George had no idea he'd be honored at last night's HALO Awards, but in the surprise of the night, Nicole Richie presented him with an award for his work coaching and mentoring a youth dance troupe. Raymone credits dance for keeping him out of trouble as a kid, and wants to do the same for other kids in at-risk neighborhoods. Ne-Yo, who performed his hit "Let Me Love You" on the show invited George to be his VIP guest for a day. George was also gifted with new audio equipment for his dance classes.
+ Matt Ferguson's Love For His Mama
Ain't nothin' sweeter than a mama's boy, and Matt Ferguson is just that. He started Matt's Chemo Bags his freshman year of high school after his mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. The bags -- full of lotion, socks, and other comfort items -- help women enjoy some of the simple comforts of home while undergoing chemo. Matt's raised over $60,000 and donated over 7,500 bags to date! And how lucky was he to be paired with Emma Stone?! "You can always do something small to help somebody out," Matt said on the show, reminding us that we all have the power to make the world a better place, starting right here at home.
The 5th honoree, Allyson Ahlstrom started Threads For Teens to bring the boutique clothing-shopping experience to disadvantaged girls. She started from her parents' living room, and how has her very own store!
