Water is something a lot of us take for granted. It's hard to imagine, but almost 800 million people don't have access to clean water, and charity: water wants to bring those numbers down.

There are some really sobering details out there, like the fact that more people die each year from lack of clean water than they die from violence (including war). Lack of clean water can lead to severe cases of diarrhea, and 90% of deaths from diarrhea happen to kids under the age of five.

Getting clean water is a health issue, and it's also a women's rights issue. Women are more likely than men to have the task of walking long distances for water, and these women are often sexually assaulted during their travels. If women didn't have to walk all that way for water, not only would it protect them from assault, but it would also open up their time for things like education. The more education a woman has, the better her chances of breaking out of poverty. charity: water also gives women more chances at leadership roles.

charity: water has a September Campaign going on till October 1 that specifically aims to help the water crisis in Rwanda. The is hoping to give 26,000 Rwandans clean water with their campaign. When they succeed they're going to focus on other areas of the country in an effort to provide clean water to everyone in Rwanda.

How can you help bring clean water to Rwanda? You can donate, and you can also start a campaign. Singer Greyson Chance got so into this water fest that he began asking people to donate $15 or more to charity: water for his birthday. 100% of the proceeds will go to help get clean water for Rwandans. We can drink to that!
