Tony Scott, brother of Ridley Scott and director of such action classics as "Top Gun" and "Crimson Tide," died yesterday (August 19) after an apparent suicide. Scott reportedly jumped from a suspension near San Pedro, California. He was 68 years-old.
The LAPD told Deadline that they received a 911 call at 12:35 p.m. about a man parking his car in an eastbound lane of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, scaling a fence, and leaping off the bridge "without hesitation."
It was also reported that Scott left a suicide note in his parked car.
Scott had been developing a "Top Gun" sequel with the original's star Tom Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
