It's time to bring about some Girl Power, and no, I'm not talking about the Spice Girls! Tonight and tomorrow night (at 9/8c), PBS is going to be playing the ultra-inspiring special "Half the Sky," which is all about overcoming oppression that women face and turning it into opportunity.

"Half the Sky" started as a book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, who are husband and wife along with being co-writers. The book talks about serious stuff like human trafficking, maternal mortality and the importance of girls' education, and it brings in the argument that women worldwide need more rights to make the globe a better place. Can we get some applause, ladies? Insert clapping Emojii here.

A bunch of celebrity activists, including Eva Mendes, America Ferrera and Olivia Wilde are joining WuDunn and Kristof to go "on a journey to tell the stories of inspiring, courageous individuals." They show us women's situations in 10 different countries, so you can get an idea of what life is like for women in other parts of the world.

But "Half the Sky" isn't just a book and a PBS special -- it's a movement you can get involved in. Besides watching the doc, you can sign up to volunteer, read the original book or even help out women and girls by playing Half the Sky Movement: The Game on Facebook! There are a lot of things that need to be done, but this movement shows that a lot of people are ready to roll up their sleeves and get involved. Now that's turning oppression into opportunity.
