It's Anderson Cooper's job to report on the news, but this week he's been the news. That's because the CNN anchor publicly came out as gay and has gotten lots of kudos from fans and LGBT rights supporters.
For a long time many people had assumed Anderson was gay, though this is the first he's openly acknowledged it to the general public. It's been big news, and a bunch of celebs quickly backed him, including Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris and MTV's own sexpert Dan Savage. Anderson went to Twitter to thank all the people out there Tweeting kind words. The silver fox gave a thankful and holiday-related Tweet:
I appreciate all the nice tweets. I am in Botswana working but want to wish everyone a great 4th of July!

Anderson might be splashed all over the news now, but this Tweet goes to show he's not stopping to watch. He's a busy man who's already working on his next assignment!
Earlier, Anderson explained why he didn't come out of the closet sooner, and why he's chosen to now: "It's become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something -- something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true."
Getting to it, he said, "The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn't be any more happy, comfortable with myself and proud."
Good luck on your work in Botswana, Anderson, and Happy Fourth back to ya!
