"Girl Code" is back on October 30 at 10/9c! If you want to get caught up on what the girls are up to, you have to look no further than Shalyah Evans' Twitter page, where she is giving a shout out to a young poet who takes on gender issues.
Shalyah Tweeted:
Holy crap. Yes. This girl is amazing. http://t.co/cM625yp8yP @GirlCode

The vid she shares comes to us thanks to Button Poetry, an org based in Minnesota that's all about performance poetry. Poet Lily Myers's performance has become an Internet sensation, and when you check it out, you can see why:
+ Watch Lily Myer's perform "Shrinking Women."
"I wonder if my lineage is one of women shrinking," Lily says, "making space for the entrance of men into their lives, not knowing how to fill it back up once they leave." She talks about how many women feel ashamed to eat, or speak up in class, or assert themselves.
Her words have struck a chord with almost two million viewers, including Shalyah. When the "Girl Code" star posed for a feminist campaign with MTV Act, she explained why women's rights are so important to her. "I am a feminist for a very simple reason: Women are human beings. Our value is equal to that of men."
She continued, "Our thoughts, our rights, and our treatment deserve no less respect than those of a man. The word 'feminist' gets treated like a dirty word sometimes, but I consider it a wonderful compliment, and I'm happy to wear it as a badge of honor. Generations of amazing women have come before us and changed the world, but the fight is never over. I never want to see us become complacent."
Shalyah and Lily both know exactly how to word it!
