For as formulaic as a James Bond movie might seem, making a great 007 film is no easy feat, especially considering when how old the series is. The proof is in the less-than-memorable entries in the series, but for "Skyfall," the filmmakers understood the challenges of threading the needle and constructing a classic Bond for the modern age.

In an exclusive look at a featurette from the upcoming Blu-ray release of "Skyfall" called "Shooting Bond 007 DC," director Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig talk about getting the character right while keeping the actual film interesting.

"It's actually a remarkably difficult part to play because he says very little, and the moment you make him say too much, it's not Bond anymore," Mendes said. "He operates on instinct a lot of the time. He has his own inner demons, but he doesn't show them to other characters, and yet we must, as an audience, be aware of them."

Craig emphasized the importance of the dialogue and its part in staying true to Bond. "The dialogue is crucial and snappy dialogue," he said. "In movies like this, there isn't time to make long, long speeches. He's a man of action, and that's what's important."

"Skyfall" will hit shelves on Blu-ray and DVD on February 12. It is currently available for digital download.
