February 14 is the time to get lovey with your sweetheart and to join the One Billion Rising campaign, but it's also the two month anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting. In honor of the 26 people who lost their lives -- and their family and loved ones -- 1 Million Hearts for Newtown is here to share love on the world wide web.
After the shooting, the nonprofit Sandy Hook Promise was created to support the community and those affected by what happened. The org has recently created 1 Million Hearts for Newtown, which offers digital Valentine's Day cards you can share on social media. The cards say things like, "Love Wins" and "Our hearts are broken. Our spirit is not. We love you, Newtown."
You can send the Valentine cards to your BF or GF, or you can post them on your FB wall or Tweet them out. The town of Newtown has gotten a lot of physical gifts since the shooting, and this allows them to feel the love online. Along with getting #1BillionRising to trend on Twitter for February 14, let's get the hashtag #1MillionHearts all over Twitter, too.
Sandy Hook Promise is also hoping you'll sign the promise they've set up, which reads: "I Promise to honor the 26 lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I Promise to do everything I can to encourage and support common sense solutions that make my community and our country safer from similar acts of violence." In honor of the Day of Love and the two month anniversary, let's come together and spread the love.
