Normally Ellen DeGeneres is here to dance and make us laugh, but sometimes she has serious words to pass on as well. Tropical storm Isaac has been big in the news lately, and people can't help but think of Hurricane Katrina, especially with Isaac coming up on the Katrina anniversary.

Ellen Tweeted:

It's been 7 years since Katrina hit New Orleans. Today it's in the path of hurricane Isaac. My thoughts are w/ the people in affected areas

If Isaac makes landfall tomorrow, that will be the seventh year anniversary of when Katrina came onshore. The storm has already gone over Haiti, Cuba and the Florida Keys. Haiti reported that at least 19 people were killed by the storm.

A lot of people are drawing parallels between Isaac and Katrina. Still, CNN reports that Isaac is expected to not be as strong as Katrina. As of early this morning, Isaac was a little under what's considered "hurricane strength." However, it is expected to reach hurricane levels today.

People in some areas in Isaac's path have been asked to leave their homes. In terms of rain, parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Florida might get about 20 inches.

Lots of eyes are on New Orleans, which is bracing itself for Isaac. We all have too many memories of what Katrina looked like. NOLA mayor Mitch Landrieu said, "We're confident that the work we've done in the last few years makes us fully capable of handling this type of storm."

Like Ellen, our thoughts are with everyone in the affected areas. We'll all be watching Isaac closely to see what happens.
