Paths are paved with many things: concrete, good intentions, yellow bricks ... pop songs?! The Pave The Way Project -- a smart, stylish campaign tackling teen dating violence -- is out to prove that pop songs can bring awareness to dating abuse. If Rihanna and Eminem can tackle it in "Love The Way You Lie" why can't an up and comer artist do it too? Salvador and Carlos Santana agree. Oodles of fans agree. Seven young songwriting contenders agree. What's your vote?
Between now and June 12, you can cast your vote for one aspiring performer whose song most moves you. The winner will go on to record with father-son legends Carlos and Salvador Santana, each Grammy winners in their own rights. Not a bad way to start a career, huh? Even more so considering the invaluable messaging tucked inside these catchy tunes: that, as we know, love is not abuse.
Offering relationship tests, lists of resources and, of course, inspiring music, Pave the Way reinforces the weight of teen dating violence, illustrating the boundaries between healthy relationships and abusive ones. Shedding light on these tunes -- and the rising stars who perform them -- will add to the reminders.
