The curtain on Gavin Hood's "Ender's Game" adaptation has slowly started to pull back, with a handful of photos and a poster to its name. It can now add the first photo of Ben Kingsley's Mazer Rackham to the list, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.
As the mysterious and weathered warrior, Kingsley went deep into his research and embodied the character. Learn what he told EW about his preparation after the jump!
"In the script, which I think is beautifully written, what come across is the authority and mystery," Kingsley said about his character. "There's quite a lot said about him in the story before you see him—by the recruits and by his fellow officers—and that's useful as far as preparations."
Kingsley even spoke with a Maori tribal expert to learn the significance behind the face tattoos. "Every gesture in the tattoo carries family history, family struggles—it's your past," Kingsley said. "I was so enthralled. He's in quite a contained, stylized uniform but then this wonderful face tells his warrior history."
"Ender's Game" opens on November 1. The first trailer is set to debut next week on May 7.
