Right now same-sex marriage is on the books in nine states, and if Jesse Tyler Ferguson's wish comes true, Illinois will be the tenth state. Besides lobbying and talking to politicians, Jesse has also used fashion sense to push his point!
The "Modern Family" star sent out multiple Tweets on the issue. First, a short Tweet and a pic to show what he was doing:

Next he Tweeted about personally making phone calls:

But how 'bout the fashion part, you ask? Tie the Knot, a foundation Jesse created with his fiancé Justin Mikita, has released a special bow tie. Money earned from the tie goes to help different LGBT orgs, and Jesse came up with the idea of "Bow Tie Lobby Day" for Thursday. Legislators supporting same sex marriage could wear the bow ties to show where their allegiance was!
Enough people must have been wearing their bow ties, because later in the day Jesse Tweeted:
Yay #ILequality passed committee 8-5! Wish we could stay longer! Good bye Illinois! Oh and this: twitter.com/jessetyler/sta…

Twitter doesn't give you much word space, so let me explain: approval of a same-sex marriage bill passed a state Senate committee. It doesn't mean that same-sex marriage is legal in Illinois; it means it took a step closer to possibly becoming legal. The next step is for the bill to go to the state senate.
So there's still a ways to go, but Jesse is positive that marriage equality is on the horizon. "I'm looking forward to raising a family with Justin and having our kids grow up in an equal America," he said.
